Teens in Trouble

There are so many things that teens could get involved in and get themselves in trouble. There are many things in the world that aren't necessarily allowed for teens to do but they don't really get in trouble with the cops for it. Many teens disobey their parents, lie, and fight at school but the punishment is pretty small compared to some of the things i've heard happen to kids who mess with weed and get caught. There are kids who get caught stealing and are labeled as juvenile delinquents (Children). These kids can steal merchandise and return it back to the place they stole it from and not get into that much trouble. Teens can also get involved with gangs and be violent towards other kids. When teens are in gangs they usually participate in things that aren't necessarily allowed, such as fighting, stealing, vandalizing and tagging or spraypainting (National). Teens also find ways to obtain guns and so many deaths occur due to it. In 1998, more than 10 children and teenagers, ages 19 and under, were killed by guns almost everyday. In the same year, 77% of murdered kids from the ages 13-19 were killed with a firearm. There are also many teenagers who take their own lives using a gun each year (Children and Firearms). Instead of police focusing a lot of their time trying to catch teens who smoke marijuana illegally, they should direct more of their attention to other stronger issues. Marijuana affects the teens who use it and that is the teens fault. Stealing, owning guns, and gang membership affects the community as well as the teens involved.
