A Different Green Card.

Do you ever wonder how hard it really is to get a card that authorizes you to use medical marijuana? Well, in some states it's really not too difficult at all. On one hand some doctors decide not to suggest the use of medical marijuana because of fear of getting arrested. On the other hand, there are doctors in those other states that prescribe it with very little hesitation. Medical marijuana is allowed in the following states: Alaska, California, Colorado, Hawaii, Maine, Nevada, Oregon, and Washington (Frequently). Obviously, people in these states can see how marijuana can actually affect in a positive way instead of only a bad. If they can see it, people in other states can see it as well. It is said that just as long as you form a good relationship with your physician and choose a good time to bring up the topic, you will have a strong chance at having them recommend it to you (Legal). Obtaining a medical marijuana card is so easy to get even high school kids in the Grossmont Union High School district were able to get it. They used this card as a legitimate exuse to get high. After finding out that these kids weren't even issued these cards legally they were severely punished (High School). The point is, if marijuana was legal kids wouldn't be trying mischevious and bad things to try and get it. They wouldn't be trying to find good reasons to have weed and they wouldn't be getting in trouble for it in the first place.

Is Marijuana Really Harmfully Addictive?

Many people say that marijuana is a horrible drug because it is highly addictive. Although marijuana is addictive, it is not very physically addicting. Your body doesn't necessarily become dependant on it before quite some time. After the user does get somewhat addicted after a long period of time, being addicted still isn't fatal (Addiction). Alcohol is very addicting, much more so than marijuana. Despite this fact, alcohol is perfectly legal after a certain age. The effects of alcohol, which is also known as being drunk, usually causes more chaos or trouble than being high. People who are going through major surgeries or intensive therapy and have to deal with a lot of pain are allowed to legally use this substance. They are given a card which allows them to use the drug. If this drug was so horrible I highly doubt that any hospitals or physicians would allow them to be used. Marijuana is said to be known to give a sense of pain relief to it's patients. It is also a fact that more than 30% of physicians would prescribe more cannabis, which is the plant marijuana comes from, to their patients if only it was legal (What Are the Findings). Basically, although marijuana has the tendency to be harmful and adddicting it can all be put under control if the user is responsible. A lot of time passes by before the user gets addicted and every person should have the will power to say no before they get hooked.

Teens in Trouble

There are so many things that teens could get involved in and get themselves in trouble. There are many things in the world that aren't necessarily allowed for teens to do but they don't really get in trouble with the cops for it. Many teens disobey their parents, lie, and fight at school but the punishment is pretty small compared to some of the things i've heard happen to kids who mess with weed and get caught. There are kids who get caught stealing and are labeled as juvenile delinquents (Children). These kids can steal merchandise and return it back to the place they stole it from and not get into that much trouble. Teens can also get involved with gangs and be violent towards other kids. When teens are in gangs they usually participate in things that aren't necessarily allowed, such as fighting, stealing, vandalizing and tagging or spraypainting (National). Teens also find ways to obtain guns and so many deaths occur due to it. In 1998, more than 10 children and teenagers, ages 19 and under, were killed by guns almost everyday. In the same year, 77% of murdered kids from the ages 13-19 were killed with a firearm. There are also many teenagers who take their own lives using a gun each year (Children and Firearms). Instead of police focusing a lot of their time trying to catch teens who smoke marijuana illegally, they should direct more of their attention to other stronger issues. Marijuana affects the teens who use it and that is the teens fault. Stealing, owning guns, and gang membership affects the community as well as the teens involved.

The Facts.

Since there is a very powerful active ingredient in marijuana, there is a 100% chance that it will affect the brain and activate the activity of certain brain cells. When marijuana is smoked, the effects are felt quicker compared to eating marijuana. When it is baked into food or brewed in tea, the effects take longer to get felt but last for much longer. Usually the effects are only felt for about 3 hours or so. There are things in your brain called Cannabinoid Receptors that affect pleasure, memory, thought, perception of time, and movement. These receptors are often altered and influenced when surrounded by marijuana. If heavy doses are administered they can cause hallucinations, impaired memory, or becoming delusional (Health). Usually the user experiences dry mouth and a dry throat. They can also experiece an increased heart rate and can often raise the heartbeats by 20-50 beats per minute (Marijuana). A lot of times people that smoke marijuana have trouble remembering things, have difficulty concentrating, paranoia, and red, bloodshot eyes. Headaches, nausea and minor changes in reproductive organs can also occur (Marijuana's Adverse Effects). Despite all of these effects that seem bad, smoking a couple joints doesn't come close to effects people experience due to smoking cigarettes. Cigarettes are more highly addictive and so is alcohol. Although cigarettes and alcohol are highly addictive, they are both legal and allowed after a certian age.

Marijuana.

Marijuana, commonly known as weed, pot or dro, is the drug that is abused most. It is a dry greenish-brown substance that is shredded and includes stems, leaves and seeds. It is derived from a hemp plant called Cannabis stavia and has a main active chemical called THC. THC is short for delta-9-tetrahydrocannabinol. The intoxication of this drug can cause distorted perceptions, uncontrollable coordination, problems solving problems and trouble with memory (NIDA). Dro is usually smoked through a blunt, which is a cigar wrapper with the tobacco taken out and replaced with the weed, or through a pipe. Marijuana can also be used in food, such as brownies or be used to brew tea. The THC chemical in weed gets absorbed by the fatty tissues in the body and gets distributed throughout the internal organs. It remains in the system for about a week after use and can stay for longer. The short term effects of weed can cause anxiety, a rapid heart rate, and panic attacks. The long term effects of weed can cause symptoms of chronic bronchitis, more frequent chest colds and a greater risk or pneumonia (Marijuana). Although all of these facts are true and not necessarily good, they can be controlled. Not everyone who takes part in smoking marijuana needs to smoke it on a regular basis. Marijuana becomes addictive after a long period of usage time, not simply using it on several occasions. People need to realize that there are a lot of other things that are more serious in the world. Instead of police focusing on kids who are experimenting with weed, they should spend more of their time on more serious issues. Recreational use is not as problematic and people make it out to be and should be allowed. http://www.alternet.org/drugreporter/60959/
